The Good Haus is a mission-driven property in the Brewery District of Columbus, Ohio repurposed by the Jefferson Avenue Center as a space for multiple nonprofit organizations. The interior offers high-efficiency, contemporary features, with an exterior that provides a remarkable sense of identity for the occupants.
Not for the Faint of Heart
Renovating a historic building in the condition we found 966 S. High Street was not for the faint of heart. Our project team was made of people drawn to the complex, the knotty, the thorny and labyrinthine. The Good Haus, built circa 1888, has a rich history as a community-focused building. First used as the rectory for a Swiss church and then as the Columbus Maennerchor from 1921-2010, the building was put on the Columbus Landmarks Foundation’s “2018 Most Endangered Buildings List” and was close to being demolished before it was purchased for use by nonprofits in early 2019.
